Worried your structural steel could become a rusting wreck?

Tauranga Sandblasting provides protection from rust

Protecting your structural steel is what we do at Tauranga Sandblasting. We clean grime, rust or old paint off its metal surfaces and cover it with an effective protective coating where appropriate. So you can have your beams looking good and bearing weight safely for as long as possible.

We make sure we do the job quickly, and on the day and time we said we would. That way your construction schedule is not compromised and any interruptions due to on-site work is kept to the minimum.

It doesn't matter if it's pre-fabricated steel or other parts to be erected later or if it's an existing structure – if it holds up a roof, floor, water tank or bridge. You can entrust it to us and know it will be cared for and come out perfectly, ready for years of safe use.

What we can do for you

The team at Tauranga Sandblasting are experts at removing mill scale, rust, paint, soil, oil and grime build up from metal surfaces such as I-beams and welded constructions. Abrasive blasting allows us to not only clean surfaces, but to get into all the little nooks and crannies you could never reach by hand or with power tools to clean out the rust and dirt.

Our site in Mt Maunganui is equipped with a 20m x 6m x 6m protected blasting booth, housed inside an even larger clean warehouse and paint shop measuring 60m x 40m x 20m. So we can accommodate even large partly assembled structures. A close working relationship with nearby McLeod Cranes enables us to move heavy pieces carefully and safely.

We also have a fully equipped mobile unit we can bring to your site to clean existing structures.

Abrasive blasting is only one part of the process to protect your structural steel. More often than not, we follow this up by applying a protective coating or combination of coatings – whether paint or powder coat. We specialise in the use of Altex, PPG and Akzo International paint systems to give your structures the best, most practical protection available.

How we meet our responsibilities towards you, our staff and the environment

Despite our name, at Tauranga Sandblasting we don't actually use sand for our blasting. Instead, we use specially imported garnet particles that are inert and free from the harmful silicates you find in ordinary sand.

The fact that garnet is so inert also means that it contains no particles that may remain behind on the abrasive blasted surface and react with the metal, giving you the assurance that the surfaces we treated will remain in good order for a long time to come.
